Canadian Vision Care ProjectCreated:December 3, 2001Since 1982 Dr. Dobbelsteyn has participated annually in vision care projects to Jamaica, providing eyecare to over thousands needy children and adults, including helping to develop and maintain a glaucoma clinic in the mountains outside Kingston. Dr. Gray has participated in several projects in St. Martens, Saba, Anguilla, and Trinidad.Canadian Vision Care (CVC) has been providing free vision care to individuals in less privileged parts of the world since 1981. Working in partnership with Lions and Rotary Clubs, as well as churches and public health organizations, projects have been focussed in areas where they can be most effective. In 1999 the St. Maarten Lions Club contacted CVC to initiate a vision screening program for the children on the Dutch side of the Island. The request for this program arose from an identified need for screening of children in an area where resources are limited and many families are not able to afford the services of the local ophthalmologist.
