Counterfeit Contact Lenses on Internet!Created:October 24, 2004CooperVision, Inc., has discovered counterfeit Proclear Compatibles contact lenses circulating in the U.S. market. The counterfeit product is believed to be limited to the inventory of 1-800 Contacts, an unauthorized distributor of Proclear Compatibles. The company became aware of the problem after two patients complained about the quality of their Proclear Compatibles lenses; subsequent analysis of lenses returned by one of these patients confirmed that they were counterfeit. CooperVision has notified all known unauthorized U.S. distributors of Proclear Compatibles to alert them to the presence of counterfeit contact lenses in the United States. The company requests that these distributors quarantine their inventory of Proclear Compatibles and contact CooperVision for further instructions. U.S. practitioners with older-style packaging (12.5 cm long) or who are aware of any patient complaints concerning Proclear Compatibles are asked to contact the company immediately at 800-538-7850 to arrange an exchange shipment. More information and a list of known counterfeit lot numbers appear on CooperVision’s website. The company stresses that while it takes this issue very seriously, customers should have no concerns about Proclear Compatibles purchased from authorized sources. CooperVision currently does not authorize any Internet reseller to distribute Proclear Compatibles. |
