Dr. David DobbelsteynDr. Dobbelsteyn was born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick as the seventh of eight children. He graduated from Fredericton High School in 1975 and went on to further studies at Dalhousie University and subsequently the University of Waterloo, where he graduated in 1980 with his Doctor of Optometry degree. Following graduation, Dr. Dobbelsteyn began practice with Dr. Thom Lawrence and Dr. Glen Isabel in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. In 1981, he joined Dr. Paul Gray on Granville Street, Halifax, taking over Ron Wallace’s Optometry practice. The practice continued to grow with the arrival of Dr. Davis in 1986, a move up the hill to Cambridge Suites in 1988 and Dr. Sangster joining the group in 1999.Dr. Dobbelsteyn’s areas of special interest include contact lenses, treatment of external eye disease, and pre- and postoperative refractive surgery care. Dr. Dobbelsteyn has been involved in many professional activities and committees (see detailed CV). For over 25 years he has been actively involved with Canadian Vision Care, a charity providing eyecare to the underprivileged in developing countries and continues to volunteer annually at a special glaucoma clinic set up in the mountains of Jamaica. Dr. Dobbelsteyn married Cindy Macdonald, a speech-language pathologist in 1984. They reside in Halifax, and have two children, Erin and Gregory, now in university. Dr. Dobbelsteynʼs leisure interests include kayaking, biking, hiking, skiing, golfing and adventure travel. He spends his free time during the more temperate weather in Malagash, Nova Scotia, where he continues to enjoy the cottage he built in 1984. Curriculum vitaeEducation:
